Starbucks drinks run from 5 calories to 480 in a Grande — a 96-fold spread on one menu. Plain brewed coffee, cold brew and iced coffee sit at 5. A Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino tops the list at 480. The median drink is 230.
Below are the Starbucks calories for every drink on the US menu, sorted lightest to heaviest. No recommendations, just the numbers.
How Starbucks calories actually work
Four things decide the number in your cup, and they compound in this order:
The drink itself. This is most of it. A Cappuccino and a Caramel Frappuccino are 140 and 380 calories before you touch anything.
Size. Every drink scales from the Grande recipe: Tall is 0.75×, Venti hot is 1.35×, Venti iced is 1.5×, Trenta is 1.85×.
Milk. On a Grande latte, almondmilk gives 100 calories and whole milk gives 225 — a 125-calorie span on the same drink.
Add-ons. An espresso shot is +5. A syrup pump is +20. Whipped cream is +80. Vanilla sweet cream cold foam is +110.
That last group is where posted menu numbers stop being accurate, because they assume the default build. You can check any specific combination in our Starbucks calorie calculator.
Every Starbucks drink, sorted by calories
All figures are Grande (16 oz) with 2% milk, no whipped cream, standard syrup pumps. Frappuccinos include whipped cream where the name says so, because that is how they are served.

Starbucks calories by category
Group the menu and the pattern is blunt.
| Category | Drinks | Average calories | Range | Average sugar |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Refreshers | 5 | 112 | 90–140 | 22 g |
| Iced drinks | 16 | 150 | 5–310 | 19 g |
| Hot espresso | 14 | 190 | 5–310 | 23 g |
| Tea lattes | 5 | 194 | 180–220 | 29 g |
| Protein drinks | 13 | 299 | 230–410 | 28 g |
| Frappuccinos | 8 | 375 | 230–480 | 52 g |
The averages hide something the ranges show. Hot espresso and iced drinks both span 5 to 310 calories — those categories contain the lightest and among the heaviest things on the menu. Category tells you almost nothing on its own.
Frappuccinos are the exception. The lightest one, a Coffee Frappuccino without whipped cream, is 230 calories — heavier than 28 of the other 53 drinks on the menu. There is no light Frappuccino.
Hot versus iced: the same drink, two different numbers
Order the iced version and you usually get fewer calories, because ice takes up volume that milk would otherwise fill. But it does not work on every drink, and the pattern surprised me.
| Drink (Grande) | Hot | Iced | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat White | 220 | 150 | −70 |
| Caffè Latte | 190 | 130 | −60 |
| Blonde Vanilla Latte | 250 | 190 | −60 |
| Pumpkin Spice Latte | 310 | 250 | −60 |
| Cinnamon Dolce Latte | 260 | 220 | −40 |
| Matcha Latte | 220 | 190 | −30 |
| Caffè Mocha | 290 | 270 | −20 |
| Caramel Macchiato | 250 | 250 | 0 |
| White Chocolate Mocha | 310 | 310 | 0 |
| Chai Tea Latte | 190 | 190 | 0 |
“Order it iced” saves 70 calories on a Flat White and nothing at all on a Caramel Macchiato. The rule holds for milk-forward drinks, where ice genuinely displaces milk. It fails on syrup-forward and sauce-forward drinks, where the recipe scales the flavouring to match the larger cold cup.
The sugar picture
Calories are one axis. Sugar is the one the guidelines care about.

The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, published in January 2026, cap added sugars at 10 g per meal. The American Heart Association sets a daily ceiling of no more than 6% of calories — roughly 25 g for women and 36 g for men.
Held against those lines: 53 of the 61 drinks clear the 10 g per-meal cap, 34 clear the AHA’s daily limit for women, and 15 clear the daily limit for men.
Thirty-four drinks carry more total sugar than the AHA’s entire daily allowance for women — in one cup. One honest caveat: these are total sugar figures, and in milk drinks some of that is lactose rather than added sugar. In a Frappuccino or a Refresher, almost none of it is.
Only seven drinks on the whole menu contain no sugar at all, and all seven are plain coffee or espresso and water.
How to read a Starbucks menu in ten seconds
Four questions, in the order that changes the number most:
- Is it blended? If yes, you are above 230 calories no matter what else you do. Frappuccino is a dessert category.
- What’s the base — coffee, milk, or sauce? Coffee-based drinks start at 5. Milk-based start at 110 (Caffè Misto). Once a syrup or sauce goes in, the floor rises to about 190 and most land between 250 and 310.
- What size? Grande to Tall cuts 25%. Grande to Venti hot adds 35%. This is the single biggest lever after the drink itself.
- What’s on top? Cold foam and whipped cream can add more than an entire light drink — vanilla sweet cream cold foam is 110 calories on its own.
Ask those four and you will land within about 50 calories of the real number without looking anything up.
Case study: what a daily order adds up to
A Grande Caramel Macchiato five mornings a week is 1,250 calories and 165 g of sugar across a working week.

Switch the same habit to a Grande Cappuccino and it becomes 700 calories and 60 g of sugar — the drink is still milk and espresso, still hot, still 150 mg of caffeine. That is 550 calories and 105 g of sugar different across five days, from one substitution.
Neither number is a verdict. A 250-calorie drink inside a day that accounts for it is fine. The point is that the difference between two ordinary orders compounds quietly, and most people have never seen it written down.
Does knowing the calories actually change anything?
Fair question to ask of a page like this one, and the honest answer is: a little.
A 2025 Cochrane review pooled 25 studies covering 9,850 participants and found calorie labelling produced a small reduction in the energy people selected — about 1.8%, or 11 calories on a 600-calorie meal. That finding carries high-certainty evidence, which is rare in nutrition research. The effect on what people actually consumed looked larger at 5.9%, but the certainty there was graded low.
So: labels nudge, they don’t transform. Eleven calories is two almonds.
Where the numbers matter more is size, and there the evidence is much stronger. The USDA’s 2024 systematic review for the Dietary Guidelines concluded that serving larger portions increases food and energy intake in adults — graded Strong, their highest tier. It also found portion size and energy density act independently and additively.
Which is why the size question above sits at number three and the toppings question at number four. Knowing a Venti is 1.35× a Grande is worth more than knowing any single drink’s calorie count.
If you are tracking intake against a target, our protein calculator and A1C calculator cover the two numbers people most often pair with this one.
Mistakes people make reading Starbucks calories
Assuming the posted number is your number. Menu figures are the default build. Change milk, size or toppings and you have changed the drink.
Reading Frappuccino calories as coffee calories. The lightest Frappuccino has 45 g of sugar — more than a Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Treating “protein drink” as a health category. They range from 230 to 410 calories, and the heaviest carries less protein than the lightest.
Thinking iced always saves calories. It saves 70 on a Flat White and zero on a Caramel Macchiato.
Forgetting caffeine runs opposite to calories. A 5-calorie Pike Place Roast has 350 mg of caffeine; a 480-calorie Frappuccino has 95. The FDA puts 400 mg a day as the general ceiling for healthy adults.
Comparing a Tall to a Venti. Always check which size a number refers to. Most published figures, including everything on this page, are Grande.

Frequently Asked Questions
The median Grande drink is 230 calories, but the range runs from 5 to 480. Plain brewed coffee, cold brew and iced coffee are 5 calories. A Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino is 480. Category matters less than you would think — hot espresso drinks alone span the full range.
A Grande Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino at 480 calories, with the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino just behind at 470 and 60 g of sugar. In a Venti those figures scale by 1.5. Every Frappuccino on the menu starts above 230 calories.
Sometimes. Iced saves 70 calories on a Flat White and 60 on a Caffè Latte, because ice displaces milk. But a Caramel Macchiato, White Chocolate Mocha and Chai Tea Latte are identical hot or iced — their recipes scale the syrup to match the larger cold cup.
Across the 61-drink menu, 53 exceed the 10 g per-meal added-sugar cap in the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines, and 34 carry more total sugar than the American Heart Association’s entire daily limit for women. Only seven drinks contain no sugar at all, all of them plain coffee or espresso.
Start from the Grande figure, then apply size (Tall 0.75×, hot Venti 1.35×, iced Venti 1.5×), adjust the milk, and add toppings: espresso shot +5, syrup pump +20, whipped cream +80, vanilla sweet cream cold foam +110. Or enter it into the calculator and skip the arithmetic.
Grande Pike Place Roast at about 350 mg, followed by Nitro Cold Brew at 280 mg. Both are among the lowest-calorie drinks on the menu. Caffeine and calories run in opposite directions — a 480-calorie Frappuccino carries 95 mg. The FDA cites 400 mg a day as generally safe for healthy adults.
No. They average 299 calories, the second-heaviest category after Frappuccinos, and range from 230 to 410. What they offer is protein density: the Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte gives 27 g of protein for 230 calories, while the Iced Vanilla Protein Cream Shaken Espresso gives 19 g for 410.
Yes. Every base recipe comes from Starbucks’ published nutrition pages, and we spot-checked five drinks across three categories against starbucks.com in August 2026 — all twenty fields matched, caffeine included. Handcrafted drinks still vary by store and barista, so treat every figure as a close estimate.
